Sorry if I don't know what I'm talking about, but I only have a little bit of experience with Tor beyond the Browser Bundle, and Linux. I'm not very experienced with Tor (from command line) or Linux, and I am only using Ubuntu because it's free and this is a small server.
It says something about the Tor system package, but doesn't tell me how to get Vidalia, and it's not even available on Windows. I need to find Tor and Vidalia for Windows and Ubuntu, so I can test on both. On the Vidalia page, it says to download it as part of a software bundle, but it's not included in the bundle. There is no Vidalia, and they are not telling you where to download. Here is their official guide for setting up a Tor relay: I don't know how to do it by command line. I don't even understand how I'm supposed to set up a Tor relay or anything, because you're supposed to use Vidalia for that also. Does it only work when the browser is open since it's built in? I don't know how to run it from command line either. I don't even really know how to keep Tor online if I do this. Now, as far as I know, you have to put options in torrc. How am I supposed to even set up a hidden service? I used to do it in Vidalia, and it was easy and simple. I don't even understand how this makes sense. I don't want to be running any out-of-date versions, so I really have no idea where I can find it, or if it's still even supported. There will be no browsing going on.Īnyway, I can't find plain old Tor anywhere on the site.
However, I just want to download Tor and Vidalia, because I want to set up a Tor hidden service, and the computer I'm installing on is going to be used solely as a server. I know I'm supposed to use Tor Browser for browsing, because it's designed for Tor use and has features built in, and add-ons.
